Doctoral Student
Portland State University, United States
A.P. Spoth is doctoral student at Portland State University. As a practitioner, A.P. has experience working with people who have experienced trauma across the lifespan, particular queer and trans folks. Drawing from their experience in explicitly non-pathologizing peer support work, they employ a de-pathologizing, anti-oppressive lens to their clinical work. As a researcher, A.P. seeks to problematize taken-for-granted norms about social work as a field, clinical social work practice, and who social workers are. Working at the intersection of Mad studies, trans studies, and abolitionist thinking, they are particularly interested in the concept and embodied reality of "lived experience," and how Eurocentricity, cisheteropatriachy, neoliberalism, and professionalization shape our understanding of "lived experience" in social work theory, education, and practice.
