A New World Cannot Be Built Alone: A Framework for Action in Social Work

The continued advance of anti-DEI, anti-trans, and anti-LGBTQ policy poses a threat to social work education. Guided by Tribal Critical Race Theory and abolitionist perspectives, we delineate the threats to anti-racist practice and teaching and present strategies to stand as co-conspirators and advance critical and inclusive teaching practices.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion, the participant will be able to identify strategies for improving curricula and teaching practices to create more inclusive learning environments in the face of threatening legislation.
  2. Upon completion, the participant will be able to apply the concept of fugitivity to create and support safe spaces in the academy.
  3. Upon completion, the participant will be able to articulate what it means to be in solidarity and to be a co-conspirator with those most impacted by these policies.
