Catherine A. Simmons, PhD, LCSW is a Professor of Social Work at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). She has 10 years of post-MSW social work practice experience and 18 years of academic experience (28 years total). The author/editor of two books and over 60 professional papers, Dr Simmons’ research interest include strengths-based interventions, career trajectories, interpersonal violence, measurement, and issues pertaining to gender, trauma, and violence.
As a leader, Dr. Simmons served as the founding Chair of the UCCS Dept of Social Work from 2019-2024 and has extensive experience in new program development across several academic disciplines. She he holds the LCSW credential (CO and TN) and has a rich background in clinical practice across multiple social work subspecialties. Much of Dr. Simmons’ direct practice experience was obtained while working for 10-years as a military social worker leading family violence, clinical practice, and crisis intervention programs. She is known for her leadership and program development expertise as well as her strength-based approaches to research and practice.
