Council on Disability and Person with Disabilities Connect Session: Mentoring Doctoral and Early Career Scholars With Disabilities

Social Work scholars with disabilities are underrepresented in doctoral programs and among faculty due to ableism and isolation. Mentorship is one strategy that has been shown to increase their success. We will discuss successful mentorship models and propose a pilot mentorship program for doctoral and early career scholars with disabilities.

In this session we will:
- Discuss successful mentorship models both within social work and in other disciplines,
- Share preliminary discussions of how we can create a mentorship program through CSWE for disabled doctoral students and faculty in social work,
- Engage in a dialogue with session participants on how we can create this program through a disability justice lens, and
- Collect names of individuals who are interested in participating in a pilot program.
