Strengthening Relationships With Tribal Communities

This panel presents successes and challenges experienced by a new MSW program as it sought to develop meaningful and authentic relationships with Tribal communities located in a frontier state. The panel includes non-Native faculty and a Native community stakeholder.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the context of Montana in regards to Tribal communities and the need for social workers to help address the health needs of indigenous people.
  2. Discuss the strategies employed by the program to intentionally and authentically engage with the Tribal Community, recognizing the challenges posed to engagement by historical atrocities committed by the Catholic Church.
  3. The Native panelist will discuss their perspective of the program's efforts to engage with the Tribal community, noting successes and challenges.
