Dr. Mary Earick’s scholarship, teaching, and service have focused on activist pedagogies and critical studies to support culturally sustaining learners, leaders, and activists. Over her career Mary has written, received, and managed over $48 million in grant funding focused on equitable educational opportunities. Her public-school teaching was featured in the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Learning for Justice documentary and book, Starting Small: Teaching Tolerance in Preschool and the Early Grades and her research resulted in her first book Racially Equitable Teaching: Beyond the Whiteness of Professional Development for Early Childhood Educators focused on the impact of literature and pedagogy on the development of equitable academic identities in public schools. Dr. Earick currently serves as the Dean of the School of Education at New Mexico Highlands University. She has 18 years of teaching experience in PreK-8 public schools, 23 in higher education. Mary serves as the Dean of the School of Education at New Mexico Highland University. In solidarity with faculty and public-school stakeholders Mary most recently has secured an endowment to establish the Institute for Linguistic and Culturally Responsive Learning and Teaching (ICLRLT).
