Johanna Thomas, Ph.D is a Professor and Director in the School of Social Work at The University of Arkansas and a Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Arkansas. Her research interests include early childhood truancy prevention and intervention, school social work, prevention and intervention with students with high need disabilities, specifically autism, gun violence prevention, political advocacy and policy implementation and evaluation. Dr. Thomas has over a decade of experience in program implementation and evaluation and is currently the external evaluator or PI / Co-PI on 15 federally funded grants from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the Department of Justice - Bureau of Justice Assistance, and The Department of Education totaling $70 million. Programs range in size and area including, but not limited to, Truancy Intervention Programs, Individual Development Accounts programs, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families programs, Community Mental Health Centers, Certified Community Behavioral Health Centers, Adult Drug Treatment Courts and Veterans Treatment Courts. In addition to her research, she teaches both BSW and MSW students.
