Monica Furey (Peloso), PhD, LCSW is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Social Work at UCCS. She just completed ten years as a school board director and past president for Cheyenne Mountain School District 12, in Colorado Springs. She served on the board of directors of the Colorado Association of School Boards from 2015-2023 and is a past president. She recently joined the board of directors of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and serves with other community organizations as well. Prior to joining academia, Dr Furey worked in Washington, DC with abused children, was a social work fellow in the Yale Child Study Center, and faculty at the Center's HIV-Affected Children and Families Program, while maintaining a private practice. Dr. Furey integrates her passion for leadership, school finance, community service and social work in her work with social work students and in her community.
