Dr. Mimi Abramovitz, the Bertha Capen Reynolds Professor of Social Policy, Emerita at Hunter College's Silberman School of Social Work, is renowned for her extensive research on poverty, inequality, neoliberalism, non-profit organizations, and activism, with a focus on race, class, gender, and history. An accomplished author of four books and over 90 articles, she is currently working on her latest project, "Gendered Obligations: The History of Activism Among Black and White Working-Class Women Since 1900." Widely recognized as both an activist and a scholar, Abramovitz co-chairs the Voting is Social Work campaign, a national social work mobilization effort. Her distinguished career has been honored with 19 awards, including the “Lifetime Award for Excellence” from Hunter College in May 2021 and an “Honorary Doctorate” from Lund University, Sweden, in May 2022.
