Learning Together: Indigenous Stories as a Medium for Healing and Action

This interactive workshop will leverage one presenter’s “story” as a springboard for group discussion and exploration of the role of the indigenous tradition of storytelling to promote individual and collective healing as well as inspiring social workers to action using a decolonizing lens.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Assess the value of University and Tribal partnerships to help communicate indigenous stories of pain, trauma, hope and healing for the benefit of both partners.
  2. Describe the benefits and pitfalls of indigenous storytelling as a pedagogy in social work education.
  3. Incorporate indigenous voices to activate change in the educational environment.
