Associate Dean of Community & Clinical Programs; Professor of Social Work Practicum Education
University of Southern California
Los Angeles, CA, United States
Ruth Supranovich is a Professor of Social Work Practicum Education and the Associate Dean of Community and Clinical Programs at USC’s Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work. In this role she leads a large team of faculty and staff who manage practicum experiences for students completing the Master of Social Work (MSW) program attending both the on campus and online MSW programs. She also oversees various clinical and non-clinical service delivery programs and initiatives including the USC Tele-Behavioral Health Clinic, the USC Trauma Recovery Center, the Keck-Dworak-Peck Human Rights Clinic, and the Trojan Guardian Scholars.
Prior to joining academia, Dr. Supranovich worked in public child welfare and collaborated with the tribal community in Southern California to address the disproportionate number of Native American children in the child welfare system. Once at USC, along with Dr. Claradina Soto (Navajo/Pueblo) from the Keck School of Preventive Medicine she co-designed and co-taught an elective course on working with Native American children, families, and communities, which included students learning from tribal members of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation (CRST) in South Dakota during a weeklong visit to the reservation. Along with a tribal colleague living on CRST, they co-wrote a book chapter in 2019 titled "The Women of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Reservation: Portrayals of Historical Trauma and Healing." Dr. Supranovich completed a Doctorate in Organizational Change and Leadership in Education in 2019, and her dissertation research focused on the under-representation of Native Americans in social work education.
