This presentation details the experience of teaching a Social Justice and Film class designed to enhance BSW curricula regarding social, economic, and environmental justice, and indigenous peoples, as well as highlight using film in advocacy. Course design, assignments, and data demonstrating the course was meaningful for students will be shared.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will identify opportunities for the use of film in social work pedagogy and its potential power for as a tool in advocacy efforts both inside and outside the classroom.
Participants will understand the Social Justice and Film course design and assignments. The syllabus and assignment details will be shared for later use by participants.
Participants will understand the student experience via an exploration of course evaluation data regarding student learning and the meaning of the experience as situated in the larger social work curriculum. These data offer useful insights to participants interested in including similar content or assignments in their courses.
