IASSW: Mission, Major Activities, and Benefits

IASSW, the International Association of Schools of Social Work represents and promotes social work education around the globe, supports and facilitates mutual exchanges and educational strategies and policies for a more just and equitable world. This presentation with focus on mission, major activities and the benefits of membership.

IASSW, the International Association of Schools of Social Work represents and promotes social work education around the globe, supports and facilitates mutual exchanges and educational strategies and policies for a more just and equitable world. IASSW membership includes schools, individuals, individual life, students and affiliate members. This presentation with focus on mission, major activities and the benefits of membership.

IASSW has a rich 90+year history, founded in 1928 in Paris. It has endeavored to advance and promote quality social work around the world; represent social work education in global bodies and promote social work values and facilitate the exchange of research and ideas among educators.

As a global association of social work educators, IASSW provides it members opportunities to engaged with colleagues worldwide through webinars, biennial world congresses, seminars and cross-sectoral learning experiences. IASSW with partner organizations developed four Global Social Work Documents including the Global Definition of Social Work; Ethics in Social Work, Statement of Principle; Global Agenda 2010-2020, 2020-2030; and the Global Standards for Social Work Education and Training.

IASSW collaborates with ICSW and IFSW to publish the International Social Work Journal through SAGE Publishing. IASSW participates in the proceeding of the United Nations through various committees and forums and partners with NASW in organizing Social Work Day at the UN, a valued learning experience for students and faculty.

IASSW in collaboration with the CSWE Katherine Kendall Institute honors Katherine Kendall, a social work leader, through selecting the Katherine Kendall Awardee honored at the biennial world congress.

Additionally, IASSW provides opportunities to apply for research/ project funding for enhancing social work education through the International Projects.

The panel presentation will represent, promote and acknowledge the many activities and contributions of IASSW around the world in partnership with national, regional and international social work education and practice associations. Participants will engage with panel presenters about the IASSW work of The Global Agenda 2020-2030 Task Force, the Global Standards Task Force and the IASSW involvement at the United Nations.

Participants will leave this session with a better understanding of the importance of supporting and maintaining a global association whose aim is excellence in social work education, research and scholarship across the globe, in pursuit of a more just and equitable world.
