Robert Haswell, LCSW, is a PhD candidate at the School of Social Work. Robert earned his MSW from the University of Connecticut and has, for the past ten years, specialized in the provision and supervision of treatment programs for adults experiencing severe substance use and mental health issues and behavioral health policy. Robert’s research interests include the sociology of punishment, incarceration, social inclusion, and citizenship. He is interested in social work’s role in developing, implementing, and evaluating interventions designed to promote the social integration of the formerly incarcerated and other marginalized groups. He plans to utilize his dissertation to explore the impact of Vermont’s community-led reentry initiatives on the development of post-release identities for the formerly incarcerated.
