Joonmo Kang is an assistant professor at the School of Social Welfare at the University of Kansas. His main research aims to understand how the changing environment, such as climate change, impacts marginalized communities and advances social work practices and policies to support these groups in the face of the climate crisis. His research agenda is geared towards promoting an inclusive, equitable, and community-driven approach to transitioning towards a climate-resilient society. Funded by the Korea Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Foundation Research Fellowship, one of his most recent projects includes an ethnographic study on the experiences of a 'slum' housing community in Seoul, South Korea, dealing with climate change-related disasters. He is currently the Co-investigator of an evaluation subaward for Haskell Foundation’s five-year NSF project Large Scale CoPe: Rising Voices, Changing Coasts.
