Josh Lown is a postdoctoral research fellow at Northeastern University. He received his PhD in social work from Boston College in 2023 and his Masters in Social Work at Michigan State University in 2019. He has previously worked at a nonprofit supporting children in the foster care system in Michigan. While he has been working on his doctorate, he has worked with neighborhood organizations to collect and disseminate data and findings pertaining to housing for older-adults, equitable economic development, and understanding the housing difficulties of immigrants in Boston. His dissertation focused on understanding the perceptions of gentrification in long-time residents of a Boston neighborhood using community-based participatory research and geospatial analysis. He has extensive experience collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, recruiting and conducting research with difficult to reach populations and understudied populations, using geospatial analysis, and working within interdisciplinary environments. Josh has presented his research in refereed academic conferences and has experience presenting academic research in a generalist and community setting. He has 4 academic publications. His research interest in is community capacity-building, decarceration, gentrification, urban environmental justice, and participatory research.
