Robert G. Hasson III, PhD, LICSW is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Providence College. He holds a BA in Psychology from Saint Michael’s College, and MSW and PhD in Social Work from the Boston College School of Social Work. Rob’s research focuses on the intersection of immigration and mental health, and he is especially interested in examining mental health risk and protective factors for unaccompanied children who experience forced migration. Most recently, Rob spent two weeks in June 2023 in El Paso, TX and Juárez, Mexico, observing conditions at the US border and conducting in-depth interviews with social workers who provide services for unaccompanied children at the border. Rob’s research is community-based, and includes ongoing partnerships with Dorcas International in Providence, RI and Heartland Alliance in Chicago, IL. His research has been funded by Heartland Alliance and the Rhode Island IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence. Rob’s research has been presented at national conferences and published in a variety of academic journals including Children and Youth Services Review, and Journal of Loss and Trauma. He currently teaches two courses in the Department of Social Work, SWK 253: Human Behavior Through the Lifespan and an elective titled SWK 301: People on the Move: Forced Migration and the Social Work Perspective. In addition to his research and teaching, Rob maintains a small private practice in Brookline, Massachusetts, where he provides clinical social work services for children, adolescents, and young adults.
