Professor Emeritus
Park University
Overland Park, KS, United States
I worked as a BSW for 5 years before earning my MSSW. I was subsequently licensed as a clinical social worker for a total of 32 years. As a social work practitioner, I was a field instructor for 45 BSW & MSW students from five different universities. Early in my career I had completed a National Institute of Health - Fellowship in Inter-disciplinry health care and later practiced for 18 years in a large Medical University based Family Medicine Residency where I attained the rank of Assistant Professor. I left that position to build and nurture a new BSW program through initial accreditation and 10 years later helped build a new MSW program in the same institution. I have served on multiple CSWE work groups and task forces in addition to being a site visitor for the Commission on Accreditation. After 20 years, I retired with the rank of full professor. And was later conferred the title of Professor Emeritus.
I remain active on the board of directors for several local mental health agencies across the metropolitan Kansas City area, and have recently rotated off my second term on the Board of Directors of The Association of Baccalaureate Social Work Program directors.
As an elderly patient once said to me, "I'm retired, NOT dead."
