Session: Improving the Profession through BSW Curriculum

Foundations for the Future: Changing Things Beyond the Major

We are uniquely positioned to influence students beyond our major. First year seminar, cross discipline, liberal education courses all create such opportunities. The promotion of our professional values and competencies through such venues can promote the incorporation of such ideals into the lives of students in diverse careers.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be aware of a broad range of opportunities to promote social work values, ethics, and practice in the university community.
  2. Participants will have learned of and contributed to the creation of class exercises that promote a professional, socially conscious and strengths-based perspectives in responding to social conditions.
  3. Participants will discover ideas and tools that may be used to influence the development of new courses and teaching strategies in their own practice environments.
