Social work education in Vietnam is facing numerous challenges including a lack of qualified educators and innovative teaching methods, which may adversely affect students’ learning motivation. Based on the Self-determination theory, this study will examine the impact of intrinsic and extrinsic stimuli on social work students’ learning motivation in Vietnam.
Learning Objectives:
explain the current situation of the development of the social work profession in Vietnam;
examine the impact of encouragement and emotional support from lecturers and boredom with the working environment at field placement on learning motivation among social work students in the country;
discuss the implications for social work practice in Vietnam.
