Revamping Attachment Theory Instruction in Social Work Education

This workshop covers attachment theory's basics, debates, and its relevance to social work. Participants will then engage in activities prompting critical dialogue about current strategies for teaching and evaluating students’ understanding of attachment, and be trained on an alternative approach to teaching attachment theory to enhance student comprehension and application.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will engage with the current framings of attachment theory and discuss critiques of teaching and evaluating student understanding of attachment theory.
  2. Through guided discussions and feedback sessions, participants will gain insights into how this new approach can shift our current framework of attachment theory, allowing for more social work focused nuance in training future social workers in a long-standing theory of human behavior.
  3. Participants will be able to better equip students with a deeper understanding of attachment theory and its application in practice, to help them effectively address the complex needs of individuals, families, and communities in today's rapidly changing world.
