Session: Using a More Holistic Approach to Improve Quality of Trauma Care

Transplant Social Work and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Pediatric Solid Organ Transplant Patients

Using data from the OneFlorida+ Data Trust, this study investigates post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) prevalence and its association with medical nonadherence and healthcare utilization among pediatric solid organ transplant (SOT) patients. Findings demonstrate opportunities for intervention by transplant social workers.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the prevalence and impact of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among pediatric solid organ transplant (SOT) patients, including factors contributing to PTSD development and its association with medical nonadherence.
  2. Gain insight into the implications of PTSD on healthcare utilization among pediatric SOT patients, including its association with ER visits and inpatient hospitalizations, and explore potential strategies to mitigate these effects.
  3. Recognize the role of medical social workers in addressing the mental health needs of pediatric SOT patients, particularly in the context of PTSD diagnosis and intervention strategies.
