Cultivating Resilience: Integrating Culturally Inclusive Mindfulness Practices Into Family Violence Curricula

This workshop introduces the benefits of applying mindfulness practices in social work classes that address potentially sensitive and triggering topics such as family violence. Capitalizing on trauma-informed pedagogy, mindfulness principles, and cultural responsiveness, this workshop empowers social work educators to create a learning space that fosters healing and resilience.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion, participants will be able to understand the principles of mindfulness through an Indigenous lens and explore its potential impacts on the well-being of social work students, emphasizing the importance of incorporating Indigenous Knowledge Sovereignty and culturally responsive practices into their learning and professional practice.
  2. Upon completion, participants will be able to identify various culturally responsive and inclusive mindfulness exercises.
  3. Upon completion, participants will be able to apply mindfulness techniques into their family violence or other trauma-related courses.
