Moving Toward Self-Understanding: Exploring COVID-19’s Impact on Identity Formation for Gender-Diverse Youth

The COVID-19 pandemic is noted as having a negative impact on gender-diverse youths’ (GDY) mental health. But for some GDY, the pandemic had a positive impact. This study explores the pandemic’s various impacts and offers implications for practitioners and laypersons to aid in promoting GDYs’ continued identity formation.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion, the participant will be able to identify negative and positive impacts that the COVID-19 Pandemic has had on Gender-Diverse Youth (GDY).
  2. Upon completion, the participant will be able to challenge their own assumptions made regarding how Gender-Diverse Youth (GDY) have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  3. Upon completion, the participant will be able to identify new ways to help Gender-Diverse Youth (GDY) find spaces and connect with communities to help them further explore their identities safely and without judgment.
