A Futurist Approach: Preparing Equity-Minded Practitioners to Collaborate and Serve With Indigenous Communities

The concept of a futurist approach embodies a forward thinking, action based lens to identify solutions and possibilities for tomorrow. This presentation will employ a futurist approach as a tool for social work educators, researchers, healers, and advocates in preparing equity minded practitioners to collaborate with Indigenous Communities.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to describe a futurist approach to social work education and envision the impact of this approach on the profession.
  2. Participants will explore the importance of centering social equity, indigenous knowledge sovereignty, and why these are important as lenses to approach environmental justice.
  3. Participants will be able to describe and discuss the importance of contributing to an equity minded social work workforce in the context of the current society.
