Empowering Student Success: Embracing Cultural and Sovereign Diversity in Mentorship

In this presentation, the urgent need for culturally responsive and sovereignty-aware mentorship in social work education is highlighted. The focus will be on foundational principles, models, and strategies for integrating cultural and sovereignty considerations in mentorship. Through interactive discussions, participants will learn inclusive and effective strategies for mentorship.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Discuss the definitions, key principles, and theoretical models of culturally responsive and Indigenous sovereignty-aware mentorship.
  2. Assess challenges and strategies for integrating cultural and sovereignty considerations into mentorship.
  3. Apply culturally responsive and sovereignty-aware practices through an interactive, small group discussion.
