Promoting Collaborative Practice Among Social Work and Health Profession Students in Interprofessional Education

Social Determinants of Health “account for between 30-55% of health outcomes,” (WHO, 2023). This interactive workshop describes pedagogic methods, experiential learning activities, and outcomes of two IPE programs: six session community-based IPE (100+ students, 14 faculty), and ½ day virtual IPE (750+ students and 45+ faculty) with a standardized patient.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe community-based and virtual interprofessional experiential models that both promote collaborative practice among social workers and health profession students and emphasize team-based practice with vulnerable populations
  2. Apply knowledge about the social determinants of health in the design of experiential interprofessional learning activities to promote collaboration between social work and health profession students
  3. Explore strategies for designing experiential interprofessional activities that promote collaboration between social work and health profession students to address social determinants of health
