Student Veterans Share Stories via Creative and Innovative Modalities: Social Work and Library Collaboration

Storytelling is a therapeutic platform to share lived experiences. Research has evidenced Military populations can greatly benefit from this restorative modality. We share the importance and value in storytelling among Military populations; multi-pronged approach of engagement strategies; experiences of those in this creative project; highlight submissions from the Inaugural Issue.

Learning Objectives:

  1. After attending this presentation, participants will be able to more fully understand the importance and value in Veterans sharing stories about their various identities, experiences, and transitions.
  2. After attending this presentation, attendees will be able to describe the importance of building trust and rapport and encouraging engagement of undergraduate and graduate student Veterans in projects.
  3. After attending this presentation, attendees will more fully understand how they can better support Veterans through innovative strategies/modalities, including storytelling.
