Social Workers have the unrealized opportunity to champion food-based healing efforts. This is aligned with our professional priorities, cultural humility, and evidence-informed practice. Evidence from the literature considering Native and Cultural Wisdom about Food, How Food Impacts the Human Gut Microbiome, and Food Access and Cultural Challenges illustrate why.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to identify three primary reasons Social Workers must be involved in efforts to support food-based healing.
Upon completion, participants will be able to articulate the basic connections between prebiotic and probiotic food intake and the human gut microbiome.
Upon completion, participants will be able to discuss connections between honoring cultural and traditional wisdom and modern scientific discoveries around the Gut-Brain Axis.
