Using Vision Boarding to Re-Envision a More Racially Equitable Child Welfare System

Arts-based tools, such as vision boards, are one way to decenter and decolonize knowledge from researchers and academics. In this workshop, participants will learn how vision boards were used by child welfare professionals to re-imagine the child welfare system, and will also be engaged in the vision board process.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Upon completion, participants will be able to demonstrate an increased understanding of promoting and implementing art-based tools, such as vision boards, to gather and democratize knowledge.
  2. Upon completion, participants will be able to participants will examine the impact of Western practices versus Indigenous practices within social work.
  3. Upon completion, participants will brainstorm and identify ways to implement art-based tools within their roles and work.
