Camilah Hicks is a PhD candidate in the School of Social Welfare with a certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Kansas. Her work focuses on removing barriers to access, challenging the resiliency imperative, and embodying joy as a means of refusal. Through reframing and reimagining trauma narratives that come from living within hostile social systems, she works toward building capacity through advocacy and focus driven change for Black women and girls specifically, and people of the global majority broadly.
