Understanding Older Adults’ Experiences With Intergenerational Activities From a Contact Theory Perspective

Intergenerational engagement is an important part of the human development process. This study aimed to understand the experiences and perspectives of older adults who participated in a community-led intergenerational event. Findings from this study suggest that intergenerational engagement can promote positive contact between distinct age cohorts, advancing larger intergenerational initiatives.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the key features of the Senior to Senior Dinner Dance project.
  2. Identify how this intergenerational dance promoted initial, positive contact between distinct age cohorts.
  3. Reflect upon the role of intergenerational events in advancing and sustaining age-friendly community initiatives.
