Partnering With Latinx Communities to Address Service Provision Gaps: Thinking Beyond Social Work

The evolving settlement patterns of the Latinx community in the southeastern U.S. emphasize a need for family-centered services. This need also calls for culturally-responsive social workers and effective collaboration with community-based organizations. Using the Familias Fuertes 10-14 program as a model, implications for education and practice will be presented.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Characterize unique service provision gaps for Latinx families in new destination states, such as Tennessee
  2. Analyze the role of partnerships between social workers and Latinx community members as one strategy toward reducing the service provision gaps
  3. Devise educational and practice-based approaches to leveraging these relationships in collaboration with community-based organizations
