Competency-Based Education and University Agency Collaboration in Social Work Field Education in Vietnam

This qualitative study explored the implementation and challenges of university social work field education in Vietnam through the lens of agency intern supervisors. The thematic analysis highlighted the benefits and need for better collaboration between universities and agencies to enhance competency-based education and improve field education as a professional tool.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the current university social work field education framework in Vietnam, particularly regarding implementation models, expectations, and activities from agency intern supervisors' perspectives.
  2. Develop a nuanced understanding of the various challenges faced by students, agency intern supervisors, and university field professors to implement competency-based field education as a professional tool to prepare students for their careers after graduating.
  3. Learn valuable suggestions from agency intern supervisors that can help improve field education programs: These recommendations promote collaboration and partnerships between universities and agencies, with the aim of facilitating competency-building activities that benefit students, agency intern supervisors, and university field professors.
