Professor
University of Alaska Kuskokwim Campus
BETHEL, AK, United States
I have been faculty with the University of Alaska Fairbanks at the rural Kuskokwim Campus in Bethel, Alaska. I have been teaching at this campus for 20 years. My teaching as been primarily with Indigenous adult students seeking rural human service and social work education. It has been the most profound experience of my life to begin to understand the world from an Indigenous perspective and how an Indigenous oriented foundation for learning improves the academic experience for all students. I live on the lands of Yup'ik/Cup'ik people who have been living in this area for over 10,000 years. My work here also includes projects on community based suicide prevention.
