Jacob Goffnett, PhD, is an assistant professor in the School of Social Work at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Goffnett’s research centers on LGBTQ+ health equity by exploring how risk and resilience factors stemming from the social environment impact the population’s wellbeing. Dr. Goffnett is particularly interested in the way communities can shape positive identity-related emotions and resistance to oppression among LGBTQ+ people. Dr. Goffnett received a PhD in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2020. Dr. Goffnett has 10 years of social work practice with youth and families across a range of service settings.
