Dr. Carol Meza is a first-generation college graduate, she understands the value of education and has used it to make significant impact in her field. Currently serving as the Field Director and instructional professor of social work at Pittsburg State University (PSU). Carol was also recently appointed by the governor of Kansas, Laura Kelly as one of the 29 military council members at the state level. In addition to her academic achievements, Carol is a veteran of the United States Army and a Purple Heart recipient. Her 12 years of military experience have instilled in her the discipline, dedication, and perseverance necessary to overcome any obstacle. Carol's passion for serving others has extended beyond her military service, as she has also worked in the child welfare field and the Veterans Benefits Administration. Carol's educational background is extensive, having earned an associates degreein criminal justice from Fort Scott Community College, a bachelor’s degree in social work with a minor in psychology from Pittsburg State University (PSU), a master’s degree in clinical social work from the University of Kansas (KU), and a Ph.D. in social work from Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU). Her research interests include the Exploration of Therapy Preferences Among Military Service Members, Including Survivors of MST, and preparing social work students for gun violence through social work education.
Despite her many accomplishments, Carol remains grounded and dedicated to her family. She enjoys the outdoors with her husband and two children, fishing, camping and rescuing animals.
