Dr. Linda A. Long serves as a Core Associate Professor at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota where she teaches MSW students online. She earned a MSW with a concentration in Child Mental Health, and graduate certification in Marriage and Family Therapy from UGA where she later earned a PHD in Psychology.
She taught graduate social work students for 10 years at the UGA and served as Coordinator of the Bachelor of Social Work Program. Since 2014, she has taught social work students full time online. She previously served in a faculty role at USC, UCF, EKU and Fordham University.
Dr. Long’s research has focused on culturally diverse youth’s family, school experiences and academic achievement as well as help-seeking behaviors of Black adults coping with symptoms of depression. Her current research and writing focuses on teaching and mentoring MSW students in an online classroom.
In her courses, she relies on her 15 years of practice as a social work practitioner in the areas of child and adolescent mental health, family therapy, children & families in the foster care system, and school social Work with children presenting with severe behavioral and emotional concerns.
As a learner-centric instructor, she is passionate about teaching and mentoring social work students, in an online classroom. Her hope is that her work with students is empowering, but also challenges them as critical thinkers. Most importantly, she hopes that her students develop practice skills that will make a difference in the lives of the people whom they serve.
