Dr. Christopher Robinson, advocate, educator, and licensed social worker, is the founding BSW Program Director and Assistant Professor of Social Work at Pennsylvania State University in greater Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Professor Robinson is passionately committed to anti-discriminatory, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive approaches to social work practice. His teaching interests include cultural competence, diverse populations, social work interviewing skills, and working with vulnerable communities of color. His primary research interests involve increasing community college student access to historically Black colleges and universities, student persistence to graduation, transfer equity, and under-resourced/underserved communities of color.
Robinson is a native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, who has served and worked throughout the greater Pittsburgh region for over 17 years. Robinson earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree from historically Black Jackson State University in 2006 and a Master of Social Work degree with a graduate certificate in Human Services Management from the University of Pittsburgh in 2007. 2017, Robinson earned a doctorate in Higher Education Administration and Leadership Studies from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, focusing on social work education and diverse minority-serving institutions.
Dr. Robinson is a recipient of numerous awards, including the 2020 NISOD Excellence in Teaching Award, the 2021 New Pittsburgh Courier Men of Excellence Award, the 2021 University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work Distinguished Alumni Award for Social Work Education, and the 2023 Pittsburgh Magazine 40 Under 40 Award.
