Dr. Mommaerts earned a PhD in Interdisciplinary Health, with a focus in Health Equity and Psychosocial Health, from Northern Arizona University, and a master's degree in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is an Assistant Professor at Northern Arizona University in the Department of Social Work and has over ten years of experience in clinical, supervisory, and leadership experience in diverse settings, including integrated care, community mental/behavioral health, hospice, and schools. She is a licensed clinical social worker and certified personal trainer. Her education, training, experience, and practice incorporates an integrated and interdisciplinary approach to her research. Her research focuses on mental health and health disparities, particularly with female Mexican American adolescents. She earned an Infant/Family Clinical Practice Certificate and an Infant/Family Studies Certificate from the Harris Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Training and Institute. She is an active member of the National Association of Social Workers, Coconino Hispanic Advisory Council, and the treasurer for Flagstaff Youth Riders in Flagstaff, AZ.
