Melissa Littlefield is a Full Professor in the MSW Department at Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD. She was the School's MSW Department Chair from 2013 to 2021 and led its faculty and staff in establishing the first Online MSW Program at an HBCU in 2016. Her scholarship focuses on conceptualizing frameworks for diverse, equitable, and inclusive social work with African Americans, including introducing the concept of a Womanist Perspective for social work practice; articulating the transformational pedagogical protocol of HBCUs; and exploring ways in which emergent digital technology can be used to enhance educational processes and outcomes for social work students, as well as to promote healthy lifestyles for diverse communities. She has published peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters in these areas and co-edited a 2020 book "Online and Distance Social Work Education: Current Practice, Future Trends (Taylor & Francis Publishers)." Dr. Littlefield currently serves as Chair of the Council on the Roles and Status of Women in Social Work Education. She earned her graduate degrees in Social Work at Howard University in Washington, DC.
