Lisa Henshaw is an Assistant Professor Wurzweiler and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She oversees the Certificate in Trauma-Informed Practice and chairs the trauma course sequence in both the MSW and DSW programs. Dr. Henshaw’s research focuses on trauma, including indirect trauma related to secondary and shared trauma; complex and unrecognized trauma; trauma-informed approaches and their application to groups, teaching in the classroom and higher education systems; racial and identity-based trauma and its intersection with the collective trauma of COVID-19; and self-care and trauma. She is the lead researcher among a team of faculty and doctoral students investigating secondary and shared trauma among MSW students related to COVID-19 and their field placements. She participates on another faculty team focusing on the effectiveness of using technology in the classroom to facilitate learning clinical practice. Dr. Henshaw is also a leader on ADEI initiatives at Wurzweiler and writes about these endeavors in her research regarding the intersection of being trauma-informed, culturally responsive and attending to ADEI needs of students and faculty. She is passionate about the use of qualitative research methods as a tool for empowerment and offering a voice to historically marginalized groups while advancing social work's mission and commitment to the code of ethics. Dr. Henshaw is humbled to be a member of CSWE's Council on Race, Ethnic, and Cultural Diversity.
