Shelton O. Young, MSW, LCSW, is an experienced social work practitioner and clinician with almost ten years of experience serving children, families, and transitional-aged adults. His expertise spans child welfare, K-12 education, mental health counseling, and higher education program management. Shelton is skilled in mental health service provision for Black male youth impacted by HIV/AIDS. He is also a passionate social work educator, having developed culturally responsive curriculum on social work practice with African American families across education, criminal legal, child welfare, and healthcare systems. He is currently a Ph. D student and Dean’s Fellow at the Jane Addams College of Social Work (JACSW) at the University of Illinois, Chicago, and supports research efforts in the JACSW Behavioral Health Workforce Center. Shelton is a proud fellow of the CSWE Minority Fellowship Program. He also serves on the Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) Doctoral Student Committee and plays a role in developing innovative and sustainable mentoring experiences for doctoral students. His research interests focus on critical sexual health equity among racial/ethnic and sexual minority male youth and sexual health outcomes of youth with experience in foster care.
