Dr. Crystal Aschenbrener is currently teaching remotely for a large online graduate-level social work program at a private university. Previously, she has served in many leadership roles at an array of universities during her 15 years in higher education. She has worked on national accreditation processes and state licensure procedures. She has developed, taught, and mentored a holistic array of social work courses, which includes having the ability to teach, role model, assess, and evaluate on current best practices. Aschenbrener’s primary goal with teaching is to ensure students are able to partner with individuals to communities, by providing client-centered, culturally-respectful, evidenced-based, and strength-focused practices.
Because of a partnership she has developed with the Native American population, she created a nationally-known mentoring intervention, the Today & Beyond Program. She has repeatedly collaborated with this population via her doctoral dissertation, conference presentations, scholarly articles, and national boards. The Today & Beyond Program is where college students serve as the mentors and the youth of a tribal school are the mentees. Her research studies both the college mentors' and the youth mentees' experiences. With her teaching, service, research, and administration roles, she has compassionately supported college students’ and youths’ needs and has been empowering of their strengths while delivering real world opportunities. This philosophy was and is demonstrated in her interactions with college students, faculty, staff, and administration as well as youth, tribal schools, and tribal communities, including being purposeful in curriculum, program development, and initiatives.
