Juan Lorenzo Benavides, a Ph.D. student in Social Welfare at The Ohio State University, is focused on leveraging health services to support resilience among minoritized youth facing abuse and neglect. As a Pediatric Emergency Room Social Worker at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, he plays a critical role in assessing the psychosocial aspects of illness and trauma, offering social work services, and coordinating with governmental services. His prior experiences include positions at Texas Children’s Pediatrics, The Mayo Clinic, and Texas Children’s Hospital, where he developed expertise in patient-centered care, crisis intervention, and referrals to protective services.
