Dr. Praetorius is a Professor in the School of Social Work. She has been honored to be the Jillian Michelle Smith Professor in Family Violence Research. She also co-founded the Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors (LOSS) Team program in Tarrant County. In 2023, she was inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Teachers at the University of Texas at Arlington.
