Dr. Khaja was born in Africa, but earned her B.A., B.S.W., and M.S.W. degrees in Canada. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Utah. Dr. Khaja’s primary teaching is web-based graduate courses in the IUSSW MSW Direct program. She was a key principal participant in that program’s initial design of its first courses and has also been involved with its curriculum content enhancements. She has published on online teaching and learning environments and has given numerous peer-reviewed presentations at highly competitive national distance education conferences in this area. She has tremendous experience in effective online teaching and learning experiences. In addition, Dr. Khaja just co-edited a book with social work international leaders on global social work practice that developed case studies on effective social work practice dealing with global hunger and poverty, empowerment of women, domestic violence, health issues, disabilities, disaster management, civil conflicts, and universal education etc. Dr. Khaja has served on the Global Commission of Social Work Educators, External Relations Council which works to make social work education accessible and inclusive on a global level. Dr. Khaja chaired the committee that organized a conference in Indiana that was widely attended on Global Interfaith Peace Building. She was also co-editor of a special issue of the Advances in Social Work Journal that focused on global problems and global solutions. She also researches Islamophobia, far-right extremism, and the growth of white nationalist movements.
