I am a critical scholar-activist researcher, and my research seeks to collaborate with communities of social workers supporting individuals impacted by racism and oppression. Utilizing critical theories and intersectional frameworks, my research aims to highlight how white supremacy and other dominant embedded structures of oppression impact therapeutic approaches to mental health for Black and brown communities. My current research endeavors present a shift from the prevailing tendency to be oppressive by comprehensively analyzing healing and strategies for mitigating the adverse impacts of racism.
My research is focused on addressing the detrimental effects of racial trauma on Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and people of color (BILPOC) communities, particularly in the United States. Through my research, I aim to enhance collective efficacy and social cohesion to mitigate the mental health disparities within our mental health systems by promoting antiracist social work practices.
