Dr. Amanda Hassan is the Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs at the University of Texas Arlington School of Social Work. Dr. Hassan earned a Doctorate in Social Work (DSW) at Tulane University School of Social Work in Fall 2021. She also earned a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) at Tulane University School of Social Work in 2007 and a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from Xavier University of Louisiana in 2004. Prior to her career in higher education, Dr. Hassan worked as a social worker for inpatient and outpatient mental health hospital and medical social work programs. Dr. Hassan was a specialist in case management and mental health for over 8 years until she found her passion for academia in 2011. Her higher education career begin at Delgado Community College in New Orleans where she was the Disability Services Coordinator. After 5 years there, she transitioned to a new position at Tulane University A.B. Freeman School of Business where she was an Academic Coordinator. In 2018, she was hired as a Senior Academic Advisor at Tulane’s School of Professional Advancement (SoPA). She quickly blossomed there and was promoted only a few months later to Director of Academic Advising. Dr. Hassan is passionate about equity, diversity, and inclusion and completed a certificate in Anti-Racism Leadership at Tulane's Anti-Racism Leadership Program in Fall 2021. Additionally, Dr. Hassan has been teaching courses since 2013.
