Dr. Sharon Parker, PhD, MSW, MS, serves as an Associate Professor of Social Work at NC A&T State University and is a member of the inaugural cohort for the UCSF Center for AIDS Prevention Studies' Ujima Mentoring Program. As the lead of the Health Equity Research and Innovation Lab (theHERILab), Dr. Parker is dedicated to dismantling health disparities within Black communities. Her pivotal research delves into the dynamics of STIs and infectious diseases transmission, with a special focus on implementing pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for marginalized groups such as HBCU students, Black men who have sex with men and individuals engaged with the criminal justice system. In addition, Dr. Parker focuses on improving women’s health. Dr. Parker's extensive experience, exceeding 15 years in qualitative methodologies, has established her as a key mentor and collaborator, notably with MPACT Global Action for Gay Men’s Health & Rights. Her expertise in community-based public health research, particularly concerning PrEP uptake among men who have sex with men, reflects her commitment to advancing health equity. Dr. Parker's scholarly efforts aim not only to improve health outcomes but also to shape environments conducive to effective disease prevention and treatment, driving transformative change in the realm of community health.
